Roll Labels — Applicator-Ready, Built to Spec.

Custom pressure-sensitive labels wound to your applicator’s exact requirement — core size, wind direction and outer diameter specified per order. Every substrate, every finish, every adhesive. Made in Melbourne.

Roll labels are self-adhesive labels supplied wound onto a roll rather than as flat sheets, designed for fast, consistent application by hand, semi-automated or fully automated labelling machines.

Getting the roll format right, including winding direction and roll diameter, matters as much as the artwork itself once you move beyond manual, one-off application.

Where Roll Labels Are Used

Roll labels are the dominant format across food and FMCG production, beverage bottling and canning, cosmetics and personal care filling lines, pharmaceutical and supplement packaging, logistics and warehouse thermal printing, and industrial and chemical drum or IBC labelling. Any operation running a labelling applicator or thermal printer needs a roll-format product — and the requirements vary by line speed, applicator model, label size and substrate. For high-volume production, correctly wound rolls with splice-free runs and consistent outer diameter minimise stoppages and reduce waste. For benchtop thermal printers, small-core 25 mm or 38 mm rolls in direct-thermal or thermal-transfer stock are the standard requirement.

Printing roll labels at Onpack

Shorter runs and variable-data roll labels are produced on Onpack's HP Indigo and L350 digital presses — capable of printing across paper, BOPP, PET, tamper-evident and thermal-transfer substrates, then converting to roll format with your specified core size, wind direction and labels-per-roll count.

Higher-volume roll label orders run on our UV flexo press, which handles the full substrate and finish range including in-line cold foil, lamination and spot UV varnish — all converted to roll in a single workflow. Hot foil stamping, embossing and high-build tactile varnish are produced on our digital ABG embellishment line before roll conversion.

Every roll label job runs through Onpack's ISO9001 certified processes, with 100% vision camera quality control — so colour, adhesion and register stay consistent from the first label on the roll to the last.

A sample roll is available before your full production run, so you can trial the label on your applicator or printer and confirm wind direction, core size and material performance before committing to volume.

Frequently asked questions

76 mm is the most common core for automatic production-line applicators. 25 mm and 38 mm cores are standard for benchtop thermal-transfer and direct-thermal printers. If you are unsure, send Onpack the make and model of your applicator or printer and we will spec the roll correctly.

Most automatic applicators use Wind 1 — label face out, top of label leading. Confirm against your applicator manual or send the make and model and Onpack will advise. Supplying the wrong wind direction is one of the most common causes of applicator downtime.

Labels per roll is determined by label size and your applicator’s maximum outer diameter. Onpack calculates this at the quoting stage — provide your OD limit or applicator model and we will confirm the count per roll.

All of Onpack’s label substrates are available in roll format — including gloss, matte and textured paper, white and clear BOPP, PET, metallised film, tamper-evident and destructible stocks, and direct-thermal and thermal-transfer paper and synthetic stocks.

From around 100 labels on digital, wound to roll spec. Flexo roll labels are cost-effective from 10,000 labels. If you need a small trial roll to test on your applicator before committing to volume, request a sample pack and specify your roll requirements.
